In July 1867, Captain John Derst opened a small bakery in Savannah, Ga. Derst Baking Company is still baking fresh Captain John Dersts Old Fashioned Bread as well as other baked goods and can be found in select markets in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Tennessee.
